Not knowing your numbers.
You may have heard the phrase “The grass is greener where you water it.” Many fitness business owners are so busy running their business that they often have no idea what the numbers/key performance metrics are in their business!
- How many new clients are coming in each week?
- How many new members are you getting each month?
- How many clients are renewing each month?
- How many referrals are you getting each month?
- How long does your average client stay in your business?
- What is the lifetime value of your average client?
If you don’t know what the numbers are, you don’t know if you’re meeting your goals!
Not tracking where new clients come from.
When I first opened my first studio, I was spending over $4,000 per month on print advertising. I was also spending $4,000 per month on PR. Neither of these were how clients were actually finding us. This means that we were spending over $8,000 per month on things that weren’t producing a return on our investment.
If we hadn’t been tracking this, we never would have known that this wasn’t how we should spend our marketing dollars. But also, we’d never have invested those marketing dollars on the things that DID work! Without tracking WHERE your clients come from, it is really easy to spend money on things that aren’t working. Not knowing why your clients buy from you.
So often studios are trying to sell their workout. But often, your clients don’t really care about your workout. They care about how they feel after your workout. They care about the results they get from your workout. They care about the community in your studio or business. There are REASONS your clients buy from you.
Do you know what they are?
Do you know what you’re truly providing for them?
Once you know that, you can market and sell your services completely different. Your clients buy based on the hope that you can solve their problems or fulfill a need. If you don’t know what that is and speak to that, you are never going to see the type of sales that you could in your business!
