On the last video, we talked about the benefits of a barre franchise.

Now, let me fill you in on the dangers of a barre franchise!

Some of the dangers of a barre franchise are:

    • high start up costs
    • encroachment
    • limited independence
    • ongoing royalty/advertising fees
    • unfair termination
    • franchisor mark-up.

A barre franchise contract is written to protect the franchisor, not you!

The start up costs are non-refundable.

Imagine working SUPER hard and building up your loyal client base that could come from 5-10 miles away… only to have your franchisor put a competitor in your back yard with the SAME branding.

In addition – Royalty/advertising fees of a barre franchise are ongoing, and the way it works is the more success you have, the more fees come your way.

You also have limited independence.

This means you will have rules and regulations on how you can run your business- the business you’ve put so much time, effort and money into.

Franchise mark up means you can only buy their product. They set what you need and they set the price.  I know one franchisor that charges about $140 for a mat that you can buy for $40.  And those sticky socks that you sell – imagine having to pay $7-9 per pair for them when you can get them for less than $2.

There’s also the unfair termination. Who wants to be fired with no notice and have them take your clients you worked SO very hard for.  Imagine spending years building a business only to have the franchisor pull your barre franchise.

Also, one of the things that many potential barre studio owners don’t realize is that if you want to open three studios, you pay the fees three times!  You are often being penalized for being successful and working hard.

Okay… the benefits of a franchise seemed really nice, but that was before we knew the pitfalls and expenses. Now imagine if you can have the tools and systems of a barre franchise without the fees and rules?  Is that something you might want to know more about?
