Have you been considering launching an online program? In order to successfully launch an online program or online product, you need to know who your ideal customer is.
Today I had a call with a new client who just launched an online program, but the launch didn’t go as expected. As we chatted, it was apparent that she had made a couple of mistakes… but the biggest one was that she didn’t know who she was launching to.
She had an established email list, but it was a list of different types of people. And she was sending launch emails to a bunch of people who weren’t prospects for the product she was selling. So, she ended up with unsubscribes and lackluster sales.
In order to build a successful product launch, you need to remember – The main focus of all successful businesses is the customer. You have to know who your ideal customer is and what they need. If you take the time, in the beginning to know exactly who you are creating your online program for and who you are selling it to – you will experience MUCH better results in your first launch!
Launching a new online program comes with a lot of pressure and overwhelming emotions. You have often put a lot of time, love, and passion into your new program! You’re putting your baby out for the world to see and judge. You’re waiting to see if people love it. You are responsible for bringing in the sales. And often you need a product to succeed so you can collect a paycheck!

You don’t have to have a finished product in order to launch. – A finished online program doesn’t guarantee sales. Some people need to have all their ducks in a row before they launch their first product – while some can launch and create it as they go. In creating it as you go, you can get immediate feedback and build EXACTLY what your ideal customer wants and needs. (You need to have an outline before you launch, but you don’t have to have the entire program completed!)
There is not only one way to launch your product. – You may want to launch your new product through:
- Events
- A podcast
- A webinar
- Affiliates
- Or other options
There’s no right or wrong way to launch your business. The one important thing to remember is to simply focus on your message and your vision. The rest will come in time. If you wait for the perfect time to launch and try to emulate another person’s launch who possibly has more resources at their expense, you may never even end up launching.
Building your list before you launch is important. – I would rather see you launch with no product than launch with no list. If you are strategic, you can build your list as you go. But a warm audience who already knows likes and trusts you is the most likely person to buy! Building your list is the key to reaching new people. Build a brief list building plan before you get ready to launch!
Engage your list before your launch. – About 4-8 weeks before the launch, plan how you will engage people prior to your launch. Create content people are drawn to that leads back to what you are launching. Communicate through social media and engage your audience. Encourage people to sign up for your free content and give them something that will help them immediately. This builds trust and helps you
Email those in your circle and ask for support in your launch! You likely have at least 2-3 people in your immediate circle that have a list or social media following that will happily help spread the word about your launch.
